Elections Are For Development and Not For Violence

PRESS– RELEASE BY KOGI NGOs NETWORK (KONGONET) ON 22ND FEBRUARY, 2023.

The Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET) has called on all stakeholders in the state to work together towards a peaceful general election. The apex umbrella body of NGOs in the state made this known in her Press Release made available on Wednesday 22nd February 2023. In her statement, KONGONET asserted that “Elections are a critical component of our democracy and are an essential requirement for citizens to choose their leaders and this process confers legitimacy. It is, therefore, a step towards development and should never be an excuse for violence”

KONGONET in her Press Release, also called for calm in the light of the biting economic realities trailing the Naira redesign and cash limit withdrawal policy. She enjoined all Kogites to remain law-abiding citizens and resist the temptation to resort to violence. The network also commended the Executive Governor of Kogi state, Governor Yahaya Bello, for ensuring that the state radio station, Kogi Radio, returned on air. in their statement, they expressed optimism that “that it will be use to enlighten Kogite and promote peaceful elections in Kogi State”.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Lokoja Branch, was also singled out for commendation by the network for their efforts to ensure that the general elections in Kogi State are peaceful as they had organized a forum for the signing of the Peace Pact by all the candidates of the various political parties vying for political offices in the state. KONGONET stated that “this goes a long way to show the desire of the youth for peaceful election come 25th of February and 11th of March, 2023 in Kogi State”.
