The Kogi Non-Governmental Organizations Network (KONGONET) has called on the Kogi State Government through the Ministry of Water Resources to repair and restore the Greater Lokoja Water Project. KONGONET made this call as a matter of urgency to improve water supply within the state capital.
KONGONET, a network of NGOs in Kogi State, has expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the Greater Lokoja Water Project. The network has noted that the project has been experiencing numerous challenges that have affected its functionality, resulting in a shortage of water supply to the residents.
The network noted that the 2022 flood that ravaged the state and the state capital Lokoja had completely worsened the already challenged water supply in the state capital.
KONGONET therefore emphasized the need for the government to act urgently to restore the project to its optimal functionality and to allocate sufficient resources to the restoration process to ensure its success.
It asked the state government to prioritize the restoration of the project to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply. The Greater Lokoja Water Project was designed to supply water to the state capital and its environs, but the project has been facing numerous challenges. The project’s failure has resulted in the residents relying on other sources of water, including unsafe sources which portend Water, Sanitation and Hygiene dangers for Kogites.
This call was made in the 2023 1st quarter Press Release of the network. Click here to view the full text of the 2023 1st Quarter Press Release.
